Stage 2 Arcade Games

2 girls displaying their arcade game

Students in Year 3 and 4 have been working in teams to plan, develop and build individual and creative arcade games throughout the term. We have been studying this as part of our Project Based Learning Unit focussed around their studies in science and the inspirational clip of "Caine’s Arcade", a true story of a young American boy who created his own cardboard games arcade. Project Based Learning helps students develop skills for living in our modern knowledge-based, highly technological society. Problem solving requires students to have skills in reading, writing and mathematics as well as the ability to work as a team, research information and show that they understand what they are learning. With this combination of skills, students take control of and responsibility for their own learning, guided and mentored by their teachers. Through this unit all students have thoroughly enjoyed learning about sustainability, recycling, design, engineering, construction and lots of problem solving. This week's series of open nights have been the culmination to an intensive term's work and given students the opportunity to share their wonderful creations with family and friends. What a great way to learn!
