Rules and policies

Rules and policies are in place to make sure your child remains safe and well at school.

Visit the NSW Department of Education’s policy library for all current operational policies.

Our school uses the department's School Community Charter to ensure all of our communication is collaborative and respectful.

Attendance and absences

Students must attend school regularly so they can achieve their educational best and increase their career and life options.

In NSW, all children from the age of 6 are legally required to attend school or be registered for home schooling through the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA). All students must complete Year 10, or its equivalent and remain in school, employment or training until they turn 17.

New Attendance Notification System

From Monday 17 February term 1 2025 we introduced a new student attendance notification system which we hope will make it easier for our parents/carers to inform our school very quickly of an absence and the reason why. Many of our community would be familiar with this form of notification which has been in place at local high schools. Each morning all classes have their rolls marked. If your child is absent, you will receive a text which you can reply to with the reason to explain the absence. This response is then recorded at school as an explained absence.

The NSW Education Act requires that all student absences must be explained within 7 days of the first day of them being away from school. This allows us to provide the right support and make sure your child's absences are correctly recorded.

In the event that your child has repeated or ongoing unexplained absences, we will continue to try to contact you about each absence to provide appropriate support for you and your family.

I understand that regular attendance can present challenges, please know that our school staff and I are here to support you and your family.

School frameworks (school rules)

As well as following the department’s operational policies, we have developed frameworks for our students in line with our school’s values and commitments.

Please be aware these policies are reviewed and updated as necessary.
