Cross curriculum programs at our school

Cross-curriculum support programs and initiatives at our school:

Demonstration Skipping Team

Our school has a NSW Jump Rope For Heart Demonstration team which regularly visits other schools to promote the Jump Rope For Heart Program. Our school also participates in Jump Rope For Heart fundraising initiative every second year.

Infants Gymnastics Program

K-2 participate in a Gymnastics Australia's Movement Program for young children. The program is stimulating and provides endless movement opportunity for each child to develop their confidence, co-ordination and self-esteem.

Students in our Infants campus participate in allocated term gymnastic lessons. These lessons take place at the Grafton Lifestyle Centre which is conveniently located across the road from our Cambridge Street Campus.

The gymnastics program will be guided by an Accredited Leader and A Level gymnastics coach. Each session will go for approximately one hour.

This program is an important part of our PDHPE program.

Multi Categorical Program (MC)

Our school offers two Multi Categorical Support Classes. One is based on our Infants campus for students K-2 and one is based on our Primary campus for students 3-6. Both classes offers two full time teachers and two full time Student Support and Learning Officers.  Please contact our school if you require further information.

Numeracy support - QuickSmart program

SGPS has committed resources to running the QuickSmart program for numeracy in 2024. Identified primary students in Year 4 are given the opportunity to enhance their numeracy skills working one on one with our QuickSmart tutor, Mrs Masson. This program, which has been developed by The University of New England, has improved the numeracy skills of students who have undertaken this program.

Swim program - Stage 1 and Stage 2

The Austswim vision is that every Australian will be taught to swim enabling them to safely enjoy aquatic environments and activities.  Austswim is funded on the belief that all Australians should have appropriate and relevant swimming and water safety skills.

In 2024 we are pleased to provide learn to swim and stroke correction lessons for infants students as part of our PDHPE program. These lessons take place at the Grafton Lifestyle Centre which is conveniently located across the road from our Cambridge Street Campus.

All children in Years 1 and 2 (Stage 1) will be participating in weekly swimming lessons during Term 1 and Term 4.

This is an excellent program that is run by accredited AUSTSWIM instructors. The children will be individually assessed, placed in groups and taught according to their needs. This program is an important component of our PDHPE program.

In the past children in Years 3 and 4 (Stage 2) have had the opportunity to participate in the Learn to Swim program in Term 4 which was held at the Grafton Pool. This will resume when the pool reopens.
